JANUARY YARD OF THE MONTH
The honor of “Yard of the Month” for January goes to Richard and Margaret Adamson. They live at 104 Lively Circle. Their pie-shaped lot with the beautiful palms enhances their Mediterranean stucco home. The palms used are; Sable, Pindo, and Sago. At the entrance, there is a wall container with blooming marigolds which give color. The St. Augustine lawn has raised pine-straw covered flower beds with blooming pansies.
The back yard is also beautiful. In the summertime, it would be at its peak. Mr. Adamson said that hurricane Ivan left them with two large oak trees and their deck down.
He had to completely redo the yard from shade loving plants to sun loving ones. He also rebuilt the deck with a covered stone patio and a built-in grill with ceramic tile counter top.
The hedge along the back yard is ligustrum with crepe myrtles spaced appropriately. The small plants in front are a light green Arrow Head vine and Purple Heart plants. The contrast in color is very pretty. In the mid back yard is a free standing wooden swing. The arbor covering it is an evergreen jasmine. Behind the swing and in front of the ligustrum are planted “tree form” pink sasanqua camellias. They were pruned to perfection, and in full bloom.
On one side yard, an evergreen jasmine vine covered trellis serves as a privacy screen and in another place; pampas grass accomplishes the same purpose.
There are raised flower beds in the back that hold two beautiful Century plants, Japanese Red Maple, and pruned Japanese Plum trees.
It is evident that Richard and Margaret love plants because as I glanced toward the house, every windowsill inside was full of flowers.Their yard is a sight to see and very loved.
