We had worked on and talked about our golf tournament for months. Finally, the day came and it was all we had hoped it would be-FUN!! The turnout of players, sponsors and supporters was terrific. Over $1000.00 had been donated in door prizes. This was Lake Forest at its’ best. We are a neighborhood that comes together for a good cause. And the “cause” this year is to build a new sign that directs people into the golf course and clubhouse area. We hope to follow the design used at the new entrances with brick, wrought iron and lanterns. Now, that would look fantastic! Special, special thanks to Tournament Chairman, Don Wineman and Improvement Committee President, Henry Lawson for hours of work rounding up sponsors and door prizes. Club Manager, Steve Jernudd helped us in more ways than I can name and we thank him for his time and effort. Almost $4000.00 was raised and all money will be spent for the new sign and other projects that beautify Lake Forest. We are already looking forward to next year’s tournament and we hope you can find a way to be involved.
Derek Boulware was our guest speaker on October 7th. Derek is the new City Council Representative from District 6. Highest on his list of projects in his district, is street resurfacing in Lake Forest. He does not feel new taxes are needed for street and road improvements. Derek has not been appointed to council committees yet but hopes to possibly serve on the Industrial Development Board or Finance Committee. He assured us he would always have the interest of Lake Forest at heart.
We have a new group working on improving the landscaping in Lake Forest.
Elaine Maxime and the Lake Forest Landscape Coalition will be working to create a Southern Garden in our neighborhood. Their plan is to use camellias, encore azaleas, gardenias and hydrangeas. I can hardly wait for them to begin.
Our November meeting will be November 4th, at 6:30 PM in the 19th Hole. It would be such a pleasure to see you there.
