March 2009
The Lake Forest Garden Club met Thursday, March 5th at 10:00 in the large dining room of the country club. You could tell upon entering the room that St. Patrick’s Day was soon to arrive as the room was decorated in bright green and lovely dark green foliage plants on each table as a centerpiece. Our hostesses had done a marvelous job of putting us in a festive and maybe lucky mood. The hostesses were Laura Kauffman, Martha Thomas, Mary Taulbee, Dottie Zimmer and Rebecca Trosclair.
Our speaker from Flowerwood Nurseries could not come to talk to us, but Elaine Maxime had another speaker at the meeting for us to listen to. Gaynell Dumas is a Master Gardner who gave us a power point talk about personalizing and developing your own yard into your own individual personal space. Her background in home economics and interior design translates into garden design. Her own personal development of her empty yard was documented and gave a unique example of the process one needs to turn an unlandscaped area into a lush garden. We all had questions and they were fully answered. What a perfect time for some of these tips for spring planting.
The nominating committee of Linda Locklin, Sylvia Dowdle and Selena Vaughn had a slate of officers for us. There were no nominations from the floor and the slate of officers was elected for next year. They will be installed at the May luncheon and will immediately take over their positions. The May meeting is the last meeting until fall.
The slate of elected Officers is Elaine Maxime, President; Rebecca Trosclair, 1st VP; Linda Locklin, 2nd VP; Peggy Sheffield, 3rd VP; Lura Kauffman, Secretary; and Ann Pierce will be Treasurer for 2009-2010.
THE DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL PLANT SALE WILL BE 2 SATURDAYS
MARCH 28 AND APRIL 4 FROM 7:30 TO 10:00
The Garden Club will not meet at the club on April 2nd, as we will be going to The Grand for a tour and lunch. If you can go to the grand, please call Elaine Maxime 626-7518 to see if she can get you on her list.
The meeting on May 7th will be at the Yacht Club. This will be our May Luncheon with installation of officers and a plant swap. You need to be on our list so that we will have a meal prepared for you. We must have a headcount for the chef at list a week prior to this date. Again, call Elaine Maxime 626-7518 for your name to be added to the list. You can pay at the door if you are listed.
