ABOUT US
LFYCI is an organization of boaters from Lake Forest and the surrounding area that operates out of the Lake Forest Yacht Club at the courtesy of the property owner's association. We extend a welcome to you to join us and enjoy the many boating activities, social events, and fun in our Southern hospitality way!
Meeting the last Tuesday of every month at Lake Forest Yacht Club at 7:30 p.m., we invite guests to come and join us and learn what we are all about. While most of us are boaters, we schedule a variety of activities, many of which the non-boater will enjoy. Some of the activities include:
- Hosts 2 sailboat races yearly
- Memorial Day and Labor Day annual raft-ups
- Summer parties
- Hosts the Dauphin Island Race every four years
OUR PAST
In the fall of 1978, a small group of sailors met on the deck of a community building (the Yacht club) overlooking Mobile Bay. These men and women decided to do whatever was required to take this "name only" Lake Forest Yacht Club facility and turn it into a viable, recognized, sailboat/racing yacht club. In May of 1980, after months of dedicated hard work, LFYC, Inc. met the criteria of the Gulf Yachting Association (GYA) and the United States Racing Union (USYRU).
THE GYA
Members of our Club also belong to the Gulf Yachting Association (GYA) which includes 33 yacht clubs along the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas. We are invited to participate in their events and use their facilities. Our Club also belongs to the United States Sailing Association, which is the ruling body for the organization, conduct, and judging of the sport of racing and the Flying Scot Association. The Flying Scot is the sanctioned boat of the G.Y.A. Our Club owns for Club members' use:
- Two Flying Scots
- Two 420's
- Seven Sunfish
- Boston Whaler
